WVDCR later returned the Wheeling building to correctional use, and it now bears the name Ohio County Correctional Center and Jail. Current official material describes that facility as a state correctional setting for male technical parole violators. It is not the default booking destination for a new Ohio County arrest.
This local history changes the search order. Begin with Northern Regional and the WVDCR jail channel for a person arrested on an Ohio County matter. Use the prison channel and the Wheeling Parole Office when the person is at the county-named correctional center or under state supervision. Searching only “Ohio County jail” can lead to the wrong building, population, telephone number, and record custodian.
